Recycling and Regranulation Systems

These are engineered systems for recycling production residues and industrial plastic waste. This type of “reclaim system” allows our clients, whose business involves the use of extrusion plants or thermoplastic coils, to save money by recovering waste materials from their production cycle.

Standard or special systems are both available

Cast film and blown film extrusion lines for thermoplastic materials are characterized by a high percentage of waste compared to the material processed.

The amount of waste in the packaging and converting industry is primarily caused by the trimming generated during the formation of coils: to eliminate edges of irregular thicknesses and dimensions or to produce customized coils for commercial reasons.

The amount of waste increases with other processes and transformations of the base product, before the finished product is obtained.

Features

Our closed-loop recycling system (GFS) keeps pace with the extruder feed, simultaneously feeding the scrap granulate (in lightweight “confetti” form) and the virgin polymer. Avoiding the floating issues of lightweight material, traditionally associated with scrap recycling, the GFS keeps the materials in two separate chambers in the feed hopper. The resin is pushed by gravity, while the lightweight material is conveyed by a variable-speed screw, based on the extruder’s needs. Agitator arms prevent feed loss and potential bridging. When processing nonwovens, up to 20% of the material can come from recycled material.

Why use an APS PAC system

APS PAC systems reduce the use of virgin polymer by recycling production residues. These processes guarantee significant cost savings as they allow the reuse of large quantities of material, which would otherwise become waste, transforming them into new or regenerated raw materials.

The recovery process involves an initial rough size reduction with high-performance shredders and, if required, further size reduction with granulators. This results in a high-quality granule, flake, or powder for regeneration or reuse in production processes, including on-board machines.

Our systems can recover material up to 28% in extrusion. Recovery percentages depend on the quantity, quality, and size of the extruder feed section. In some cases, our systems have achieved a recovery rate of 33%.

These systems and plants are designed to complement plastics production and processing lines (primarily LDPE, LLDPE, and PP). Our solutions can be applied from single production lines to large and complex production departments.

Recycling production waste through material recovery plays an increasingly important role in corporate economics and it is an important economic aspect for the management and recovery of various production waste and residues, with a green vision and process sustainability.
